PSA Closing The Achievement Gap

July 13th, 2010

This is very important to me because it is something i want to accomplish so when they are comparing other students to us they are saying how good they are doing rather than how bad.
-What about this topic is of interest to other people? Knowing that they don’t have to do it by themselves
-Who do you want to speak directly to? Students
-What imagery represents this idea? the image of joining a villiage

Stepping up to the challenge-assignment 1

June 29th, 2010

How can teens, like you, use media to induce change?

Teens have their own opinion that deserve to be known and media is a way their voice can be heard. Whether it be talking about going green, feeding the needy, or even blogging on how the media effects them, making their voice heard through the media can make others stop and think and even take their opinion into consideration.

Major websites such as Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube are some of the simple ways for a teen to express themself. On Facebook, teens can make a page on any topic and speak on it so everyone can know how they feel about that topic.  On Myspace, they can create their own blog and even a music page so they can be heard through the words that they type and the music that they write.  And with YouTube teens can make a video on just about anything, for example: how to brush your teeth or even how to tie your shoe, also it is a great way to let their opinion be known.  With these resources teens can be heard and help to induce change.

Print media is also a very good way to make a change.  At Evergreen Valley High School (EVHS) the clubs use print media to attract new members to their club.  In these clubs they all have a purpose. Black Student Union (BSU), their purpose was to bring not only african americans together but, as many students as they could of any race.  They wanted high school life to be easy and no one getting left behind.  They were working on creating a tutor and mentor program with the BSU club members.  The club officers were trying to turn it in to a big brother big sister type of program so the freshmen would be welcomed into the school, be comfortable at it and when they needed help with a certain class they had a big brother or sister they could go to with all their questions.

Step up to the challenge, voice your opinion through the media and see what kind of feedback you get.  It doesn’t matter if it is just a blog only your friends see on myspace, or if you decided to create your own website.  Either way you are being heard by someone and your words are being taken into consideration.  Everyone deserves to be heard, so step up and stand for what you believe in.
