ANDREW’S PSA

July 13th, 2010

-Why is this an important issue to you?

This is an important issue to me because I hear stories about kids doing violent things because they play video games.  I think the children shouldn’t be playing games that they aren’t mature enough for. The kids shouldn’t be exposed to so much bloody violence, and guns. I think this is also important because myself as a gamer doesn’t want to see doing crazy things based off of the games that I play. For instance, I don’t want my little brother growing up wanting to kill people because he saw me playing Call of Duty. I don’t want the generation after mine to grow up thinking violence is okay because they saw it on a game.

-What about this topic is of interest to other people?

People are concerned about this topic because they don’t want our future leaders thinking that violence is okay, and that it solves every problem. People are also concerned because they don’t want their children to start behaving violently. Another reason why people are concerned about this is because they don’t want more children killing people because of video games. People are concerned because they have saw what affects video games have on kids, and teens.

-Who do you want to speak directly to?

This poster is mainly to parents. This poster is trying to get parents to pay attention to the ratings of the games that they are planning to buy their children. Parents need to know that the ratings are there for a reason. The ratings are for parents to know what age should be atleast to play the game, and some reasons why it is rated that way. Parents should think twice about what games they are letting their children playing, and what they buy them.

-What imagery represents this idea?

In the images I’ve selected, there is a boy with a gun, and a video game character with a gun. The idea of this imagery is that the child was influenced by the game to have a gun, and point it  at someone. The imagery is also hinting at like do you want a kid aiming a gun at you because in the video game that is what happened. This is powerful imagery because it can be a direct result of what an influence that video games can have on kids. Some kids may see that in a video game, and say he wants to be just like him, and as they get older they will try to be like the video game.

Affected My LIfe revised

July 1st, 2010

People say that too much television will corrupt a child’s mind. Well I feel that the broadcasting media influenced my life in a good way. If it wasn’t for television I don’t think I would be the person who I am today. Broadcasting media has affected my life in a few ways. This type of media keeps me updated on current event that are happening around my community, and the world. Without this type of media I think that the world would be different. I feel that broadcasting media is very important for the safety of the world. There is one major impact that television has had on my life.

The one important thing that television has done is that it made me want to become a football player. Television made me want to play football because when I was a little kid I would watch T.V. with my family; they would always be watching sports. Then one day they were watching a San Diego Chargers football game versus the San Francisco 49ers, and I joined them to watch it as well. Once the game was over I told my parents that I wanted to become just like the people that I had seen on T.V. After I had said that my family said I could do that as long as I did well in school first. Ever since that moment I have kept at trying to reach that goal.

If I didn’t watch that game that day who knows where I would be? If  I didn’t watch that game I think  I would be a totally different person. Without that game I wouldn’t be here at SMASH because I would be just some other book worm who applied and theere would be nothing that makes me different from anyone else. I also think that I could have fallen into the stereotypes of teens being trouble makers. I think that I would fall for the peer pressure that people put on me. I wouldn’t have anything to strive for, and i would have no desire to do anything. I wouldn’t be motivated to do anything, and I’d have no passion for anything.

Television isn’t always bad for children to watch, it doesn’t always corrupt people’s mind. Television is a good way to find out about things that are going on in your community. Television keeps you updated on important facts that you may want to know. It also enhances our sense of culture, and community with people around the world through educational programs.
