STARRING: ANITA ROMAN, EDIMA AKPAN & JOE WILLIAMS.

The Podcast Mostly focused on answering the question of how does the UC berkeley cafeteria food effect SMASH scholars day to day. We looked at both the taste and nutrition as contributing factors and based our whole conversation of those two factors.

Our audience is the all the members f SMASh that participate in eating at the Foothill Cafeteria and just all the UC Berkeley students in general that eat at the on-campus cafeterias. We interviewed SMASH members that have been in the program or on the campus in previous years about how they felt about the food because they were “experienced” eaters at the UCB cafeterias.

The foal of our podcast was to make SMASH scholars health-conciiousoly aware of what they’re eating. However, we did not go completely negative on the food(no matter how much we often dislike it!..). Part of our conclusion on the food is that the nutrition is actually offered, whether it tastes great or not is what contributes to whether its eaten or not. And thats GoodEats!

New PSA: Don’t Litter!

July 15th, 2010

This is my new and correctly done PSA. As you can see i changed the subject and I would like to thank Anita Roman for the Idea and my mother for supporting me and my blah blah blah. But the PSA is about littering, more specifically when you do it right next to a garbage container. It really bothers me because its just lazy and people shouldn’t have to suffer in the future, pick up your trash or have their streets and neighborhoods look dirty because others are flat out lazy. I am not saying littering is ok if you do it when there is no garbage, its not right ever. So please, don’t be lazy: PUT IT IN!

PSA Poster

July 2nd, 2010

1) Animal adoption because I have four pets and I think its not right that animals should be homeless when so many people have homes and desire companions.

2) Stop Smog/ Car Pollution because cars are aren’t always necessary to get around but we’d rather not walk, talk the bus or bike because we don’t want to waste our own energy when we could drive and sit in a luxurious car.

I chose my idea for stopping pollution as my PSA topic. In the poster(above) the cars in the back ground are just a small representative  of all cars, especially those that are made to look nice but are not so eco-friendly. The coloring of the letters and the green cloud in the bottom right corner are symbolic of the effects of pollution are the coloring of the letters is attempted to be portrayed as a dirty green to show how disgusting and unwanted pollution is.

Assignment #1: True Love or Influenced Love?

July 1st, 2010

In today’s world there are many new things which means there are obviously more things you’re able to love. However, there are also many new ways for corporations to capture your attention in advertising. They can use commercial broadcasting, radio broadcasting, billboards, web advertising and even pay to be used in movies. The most important part of the messages they give us is what they say  to make their product and this is what allows us to accept or deny the message of the advertisement. However, there are some companies that use peer pressure to convince us to accept their message and product. An easy example of this would be Miller Light because in their recent advertisements such as this picture(above) they are pressure men and question their “manlyhood” if they don’t drink Miller Light. Another example would be one of Miller’s recent television broadcast commercials in which Miller says “not a man unless you drink Miller Light”.

While other companies are not so forceful with their messages, they are quite repetitive. This is especially true with car companies. Not only this but they tell what we want or need and that they have it. The car company Audi even exploits this fact in one of their recent commercials; however they also use this to say that we are under the “spell” of other car companies telling us what we need and that  Audi’s cars can set us free from this “spell”.

Another way companies try to convince us that they are the right company for us is by telling us how other companies aren’t right for us and are overcharging us.  An easy and well-known example of this is the AT&T and Verizon “Battle” in which AT&T and Verizon go back and forth “bashing” on each other in one commercial after another, saying what the other doesn’t have that they do and how they cost less or “you get more for your money”. Another example would Apple’s commercial in which exploit how PCs freeze and Macs don’t (even though they really do and way more than PCs).  Last, is the small and current “war” between DirectTV and Dish Network satellite companies. Both companies are saying one has something more than the other: free HD, more HD channels and cheaper. However both companies say there HD looks the same and then ask us why would we pay more with the other companies when we can get it for less with them.
