Assignment #2 – PSA Poster

July 13th, 2010

An important issue to me is gang violence. This should interest other people because the can be affected by it too, they can have a relative or friend in it, or themselves can be in it or not and still get hurt. This is an important topic for me because I have seen friends and family fall into gangs and never come back; and now they are stuck in the gang or dead. I want to speak directly to people in gangs to show what they are doing is wrong and to people that can help prevent people joining a gang in the future. I think that bleeding will represent this.

Assignment #1 – How does new media effect the way we feel about crime & security?

July 1st, 2010

The media portrays that crime is only committed by minorities and so the music media focuses on the cops only chasing after minorities. Hearing this, it makes me feel unsafe because i can get blamed for something i did not do but only because I fit a description. Rappers sing about how just because they are a minority we are suppressed and kept in the streets, then because of that they seem “bad” and for no reason the police want us put away and will do anything for that to happen.

My whole life I have felt that I have a disadvantage because I would see people of color around my neighborhood and no one white. Looking around my surrounding I see my people getting convicted for nothing. a police pulls them over for no reason and finds something just to convict them. My father got pulled over for no reason because he was in a camaro because the police just wanted to run his license plate for no reason. My friend, Chris Vea who is tongan, got pulled over in Belmont, a white neighborhood, because he looked suspicious. This proves that crime is directed to minorities and making the security good for white people.

Having all this happening famous celebrities retaliate by coming out with there own way to express how or why this is happening and what is being done and should be done. Tupac Shakur, a famous rapper, sung about how minorites are all singled out. In one song all he raps about is that no one cares for them and are by themselves, the song is called They Dont Give A Fuck About Us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-8Ykfm4E_Y&feature=related They Don\’t Give A Fuck About Us. Another popular singer known all over the world sings about how people don’t care about minorities. Michael Jackson talk about the police not caring for any one and police brutality. This song is called They Don’t Care About Us, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97nAvTVeR6o They Dont Care About Us. Other then songs talking about this problem of police, others dedicated the whole album to show this. Police Brutality is double single album by Illmaculate and Onlyone. Both rap about how they were supressed in a poor neighborhood seeing awful things happen with no one to help to change they ways and help the poor and ghetto and improve their situation.

All this being shown, others are bound to say more and go into debt of what to do to find a solution. Immortal Technique only talks about how minorities are stuck in the hood and what they should do to get out. His method is revolution. He named two albums for revolution, Revolutionary Volume 1 and Revolutionary Volume 2. This being the base of his rap career, he sang more and more of revolution and as it blew up and more and more believed this was a good idea. How can one feel safe if the knowledge that a revolution may come? One person cant change a country but can change the thoughts of someone. Who is to that someone didn’t already start planning. Security is going down hill and there is no return. Immortal Technique talks about everything like this in this song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igt-jW4e8ts The Point Of No Return. Amateur rappers are putting their own songs and fro example; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igt-jW4e8ts ILLUMINATI BEAST.

Police chase after the ones that they do not like. If they see a minority that looks seems to be a “trouble maker” they pursue to get you only if you fit the description. Latinos in a group in the street feel just because they are in a broke down place wearing baggy cloths. They are put into an environment where it affects them to dress like this because this is the only way they learn how to act and behave. Under suppression they cannot progress and break a stereo type. Caucasians are viewed to be top notch and educated. This is why no one from the proper authorities find them a threat and aim to get minorities. With this going on, I feel that crime in the media only shows minorities causing havok while a rich white business man is viewed as an idle. Media corrupts the mind and make us feel insecure.
