This issue is important because the ignorance among adults upon the spread of hiv, aids, and stds should come to an end.  I think it is important for people to address this issue with the partner that they love and not risk passing anything onto them.

I chose this imagery because the left side shows a girl who is okay on the outside, but on the inside on the right, has a secret of having aids.  this should encourage people not to keep the issue a secret but to actually address it with their partner.

My audience is addressing adults that are mature enough to be involved in intercourse.

This topic is of interest to people because people are involved in intercourse and they would want to be aware of if they have aids, hiv, or other stds.

Media Essay

Teens are pressured by what they see on television or what they hear on the radio.  They think that everyone lives that popular lifestyle, so they try to follow in their footsteps.  Pressure is put onto them because if so-called “popular people” are doing something that seems cool to others,  then teenagers are going to feel pressured to dress the same way and do the same things that they do.  Maintaining a self- image is important to teens especially at their age.  Teens are emotionally sensitive and they worry about their appearance.  Teens can be really easy to target when it comes to the media.  Media influences teens to be conscious of their self-image.

To begin with, media influences teens to be self-conscious because teens are especially vulnerable.  They are at the age where they are sensitive and are concerned with fitting in.  Magazines, such as Tiger Beat, BOP, and Teen Vogue do contribute to how teens think of themselves in terms of how to look, how to dress, how to walk and talk, and so on.  For example, when you open up a magazine, you would usually see skinny, gorgeous looking people who are actually photo-shopped to look as such.  If you look in websites such as CosmoGirl.com or TeenVogue.com, you can find anything from the latest trends that are in style to gossip about celebrities.

Not only do magazines affect teens, but television also influences teens as well.  A couple networks that grabs most of teens’ attention are VH1 and MTV.  These channels display music videos and reality tv shows that are not exactly appropriate to watch such as “16 and Pregnant”, “Real Chance of Love”, “Flavor of Love“, and et cetera.  Once again, these shows contain material that teens should follow to maintain an image.  This material sports off trends that teens should go after.

I am a pretty confident person and whenever I hear of people saying that they should get these skinny jeans because a celebrity wore them or that they should get new sneakers, it is just discouraging.  Teens should be comfortable with who they are and not have to change their image just to fit in.  Everyone is all created the way they are for a reason and it is not to be changed for anyone.

3 topics that i would want to do would be on sexually transmitted diseases, teen suicide, and peer pressure.

STDs:    this issue is important because adults need to know about diseases and how it could affect them.  they also need to know about their partner’s sexual history and whether or not they got tested.  If they do not care to put time into doing so, then they should not have intercourse.  People should know of the consequences if they do not check their partner’s history and do not think ahead.

Target Audience:  adults old and mature enough to have intercourse

Knowledge: Pass it on

Call to Action: Get yourself and your partner tested before it is too late

Teen suicide:  its important because life is valuable and you should not be selfish and just toss it away, especially if you have been given the privelege to life by your parents and especially if you are so young and have not even begun to start living yet.

Target Audience:  teens who are depressed

Call to action:  put the blade down and prevent teen suicide

Peer pressure: it is important because teens should not have to follow in anybody else’s footsteps just to be cool and just to fit in.  If you follow them, it means you are their puppet.

Target Audience:  all teens

Call to Action:  strive above peer pressure
